Hey, Pwith - I must have been out of town when you came on line - but welcome, from another "local". I'm sure you've been told this already - but we have a pretty good size Peninsula community of M5 owners online here - we get together frequently for drives, lunch, or whatever other excuse we can come up with. Hope you'll join us. I live in San Mateo (used to live in Belmont) and have a 2000 Anthracite over black M5.

I just dropped mine off at Diablo Automotive in Mountain View. I had my buddy ask his Audi group who they would go to and they all said, "Izzy and Luis Sanchez at Diablo". So I took it by and got the estimate (it ain't cheap). While I was there a 996TT dropped in and the lot was filled with Bimmers and Vettes, so I figured their reputation went further than the Audi group. Long story short, I haven't seen their work on my car (I'll post again later today with the results) but I was happy to leave it with them based on the recommendation of other folks and what I saw and heard from them. I've got two small scuffs from dropping a brass tool (while moving stuff in the garage) and even though I wash it every two weeks, I just noticed a ton of water spots and such. Hopefully they'll be able to buff and polish all that stuff out.

Anyway, check out http://www.diabloautomotive.com and I'll post a follow up on the results.

Marco

Justed picked up the Beast from Diablo Automotive. She looks better than she did when I picked her up from the dealer. These guys did a great job pulling out the scuff marks, you can only see them if you know where to look...and even then they are difficult to see. The clearcoat looks restored and all you can see now is that there is a difference in the thickness as shown by reflected light. Absolutely no swirlmarks and it's a nice deep shine. Expensive, but very happy with the service.

pwith,

Talk w/ Izzy at Diablo Detailers. The are absolutely the bomb. Tell them Chas. sent you (no, I don't get a referal, but there's maybe intangibles :-) )

Note that they definitely are *not* cheap.

Regards,
Chas.

pwith,

I had my car buffed and waxed (clay and all that jazz) for something like $450 a few weeks back.

A friend of mine has a big old V12 Jaguar sedan - dark blue w/ some serious swirl action - Izzy quoted $750.

The car is definitely concours-ready when they get finished.

REgards,
Chas.

Yikes! The price is pricey but for that price, do they detail the engine as well?
