Exhaust Cut-out question

So i've installed electric exhaust cut-outs and could not be happier to have the versatility to switch between loud and raspy straight pipe noise or silent and anonymous. I welded one on each of the pipes just before they split into the rear mufflers.
But recently i have found out that opening just one of the two cut-outs sounds WAYY better, it gives the car a little extra low rumble when i floor it (like eisenmann), though this makes me wonder if it's bad for the engine to have uneven flow at the back? I know the X-pipes are letting the two sides of the engine breathe together... but do you think I will cause any harm by driving with one open and the other shut?

As you note, with the crossover pipe, shouldn't make much difference. You have it after the mufflers, so it would be like dropping one muffler and having one straight through exhaust.

I don't think they are QTP, not sure.. but here is the link to the ebay ad: 3" Electric Exhaust Catback Downpipe Cutout E-Cut out Valve kit Switch Control | eBay

As for the switches and their function it is only on or off, wide open or fully closed. You can however trick them into opening as much as you'd like by cutting their power while they are in motion, however i don't know if the electric engine likes to be half way open.

Adjusting the sound might be possible if you open them just ever so slightly but from my testing with them i didn't notice much difference between halfway open or fully open. It's VERY loud when they are open, i haven't heard true straight pipes but i can't really imagine them being any louder and yes I'm running stock mufflers.

As my setup is now i will not even consider doing anything more with my exhaust it sounds raw and beastly without being obnoxiously loud like it is with both open... but it's alright to have the option with the flick of a button!

I currently am using the cheap ON/OFF switch that came with the kit. I hooked both motors up to one switch but kept the connecting plugs so i can disable one if I'd like. I havent routed wires under panels or mounted the switches, but i plan to install two separate switches hidden somewhere.

I would like to note that even when I say the switches felt really cheap the electric motors were very compact and rigid as well as welds on the Y-section that came in the kit was beautifully welded, shame i had to cut it all away

Before valves were mounted

As you can see they aren't perfectly alligned. This is due to the bends on the pipe being different and the motors needed space as they stuck out about 10cm. I did this without dropping the exhaust so if you can weld it's very DIY'able and will save you alot of money on expensive exhausts!

The only heat resistant color i had laying around hehe (yes it's gold)

I got my car with muffler deletes on it; I loved the sound but was annoyed with the volume under normal (grandpa) driving conditions. I had the factory mufflers re-installed, and you guessed it, I wish for more sometimes. I've been considering Dinan or other cans, but I've often thought that cutouts would be fun - have the mufflers for the grandpa driving, but switch to what's effectively a muffler delete on demand.

I'll watch this with interest...

I say do it... and if you regret, well? Just hit the button, its just such an convinience. Enjoy it when you feel like it and you can easily blend into traffic whenever you need to. When the cops tries to ticket you for your noisy exhaust you just shut the valves, rev your car and ask: "What nosiy exhaust, officer?" On top of that its always fun to see the face on people before and after i open it haha
