How many of you have used the M-mobility kit?

Folks,
We had a recent previous thread that discussed several options for a spare. Daniel of Beastpower indicated he'd looked into designing a lightweight space-saver spare for M5 owners, but never took it to completion. Consensus seemed to be that getting a snow tire or other full-size tire was the only way to go.

That all said, I'd like to get a survey of folks who've used the M-mobility inflate-a-tire system that comes with the car. I've never been very impressed with it, and would like to find out how many have used it, and how well did it work.

Cheers,

Re: How many of you have used the M-mobility kit?

I've had a couple of punctures in my time. I was very reluctant to use the expanding foam in the M-Blow-Me system as it means paying for a new tyre and a new mobility kit (at something like £150!!). Since they were slow punctures I simply used the pump to inflate the tyre until I could drive to a tyre shop for a repair.

I've never used it, but wonder when the sealant needs to be replaced...mine is now 3 years old.

Never used it either.... I carry a full size front tire/rim that can be used on any corner. I used that once and it was quick and easy.

You will find a label with the expiry date attached to the canister.

There is an expiration date on the cannister, also a good rule of thumb is changing the cannister approx. every three years.

How do you anchor the tire and jack in the trunk, cargonet? Velcro?

Re: How many of you have used the M-mobility kit?

Used it but it was ineffective as the hole in the tire was too big. Had a second tire rupure after hitting a pot hole and drove it to a parking lot and just replaced the tire. The juice would not have worked on this one either. a
A spare would have saved me in both cases. Had to have the car towed on the first one!

Re: How many of you have used the M-mobility kit?

I had successful results with a fully flat tire after taking on a nail. I was reluctant at first to use the kit, but it was more than capable to refill my tire, plug the hole and get me to a nearby Wheel Works. Sure, it's not the most elegant solution, especially for the tire guy, but I ended up only having slightly dirty fingers. Again, not my favorite, but in this instance, effective.

YMMV, Kevin

Re: How many of you have used the M-mobility kit?

I used Fix a Flat, worked fine. I may be wrong, but I think the system BMW provides is just a more expensive version of fix a flat, same concept. I have not priced how much to recharge the kit if empty or expired, I am sure its not as cheap.
