Traction control issue?

I was taking a turn with the DSC turned off and accelerating hard and I see the
engine REV moving high quickly without the expected acceleration and tourque. My DSC light is turned on which indicates traction control being disabled....but it seems like occasionaly when driving really hard I dont get the full acceleration spectrum as say a muscle car....is there still some mechanism helping your m5 from losing control on the car?

Re: Traction control issue?

I remember reading somewhere that pushing it once for the light to come on is not completely disbling it but raising the threshold. Holding the button for 20 seconds I belive completely disengages the DSC.

Re: Traction control issue?

The clutch was replaced 10k miles ago....it pulls hard through the gears all the time except say I downshift to second and floor it as to smoke the tires the DSC seems to kick in to protect the gears?? and the car revs with reduced acceleration?

I am a new 00 M5 owner getting used to the car......anyone have any ideas?

Re: Traction control issue?

That works on the 3 series but i don't think it does on the M5

I've tried it on mine, and it works, might be just on early years 99/00 ones.. I do that on 2001+ they improved/locked the DSC more, so it could only be disabled by removing the fuses etc... (same sequence used on getting a full dyno run out of MY01+).

Re: Traction control issue?

Tin,

I have a 2000 M5 model....shall I take out a fuse or press the DSC for 20

seconds? I want DSC off all the time...

So you think what I am experiencing is the DSC not fully disengaged?

Re: Traction control issue?

Mine's a 2000, and the DSC button is a simple on/off switch.

Re: Traction control issue?

Interesting........Ok so I pressed the DSC button for 20 seconds.......and both the sport and DSC buttons became disabled.......the driving experience was changed with the SPORT mode ON, the steering stiffness removed, and seems like the DSC is now totally disabled and not partially (when having the DSC light turned on)

any comments .....there has to be true answer to this!!

Same here! I have no such thing as "partially off" mode or anything as such!
