Rogue SSK failure? Good installation shop around Cambridge?

2 questions for you fine folks of the board...

1) Rogue SSK... has anyone had any problem in the last 6 months? A BMW shop near Boston mentioned that they had 2 failures in the last 6 months and had to stop carrying the part.

2) Can any one recommend a good BMW M5 knowledgeable shop for SSK installation near Boston/Cambridge? How much should it cost me?

Thank you in advance.

Tony

Re: Rogue SSK failure? Good installation shop around Cambridge?

Did they say how exactly it failed? I just ordered an Octane SSK with the WSR

Let me know if you can garner more information on the cause/nature of the reported failures. Although we just started carrying the Rogue product line, we would like to learn more about any problems that their customers may have encountered in the past.

Thanks, Daniel.

I have not heard of the latest Rogue failures in the M5. I would be interested to see what happened. Feel free to pm or email me as we run a shop about 30 minutes outside of the city and are plenty familair with the M5. Hopet his helps.

Re: Rogue SSK failure? Good installation shop around Cambridge?

Hey TCM,

When loking at the RE parts, i don't believe that the metal on either the shifter or the WSR could break. So the only likely problem could be when the installer doesn't install the clips fully, or they install the clips with too much plastic washer thickness. Or possibly bending the clips when installing?

Have any other ideas?

Sam:

I concur with your assesment. The unit itself is pretty sturdy. The only real weak chain in the entire issue would be the plastic bushing cup and its little "tits" or locks. But even then, it would be tough to get the unit to break or snap out. I think it may have to do with an installation error more so then the unit itself. Hopefully, someone can shed some more light on this for us.

I doubt that this would be the cause of a problem. It is sturdy enough as you say, and almost all SSKs on the market employ the same design.

Cheers, Daniel.

Here we are speculating about what failed WHEN WE DON'T KNOW IF IT FAILED.

Somebody whispers and the next thing there are "the latest Rogue failures". WTF!!!

Did the shop try to sell you something else? Is there possibly another reason for them to stop carrying the SSK??? Seems rather silly to drop a line based on TWO failures.

Come on guys...

Re: Rogue SSK failure? Good installation shop around Cambridge?

Yes, I concur. We have installed over 20 or so of the Rogue units and have never seen one break or have had an issue with them. That is why I was so surprised and interested to hear what could have possibly broken on them if they broke at all.
