dinan exhaust question

put on the dinan exhaust with the x-pipe. my question is, is it supposed to be so raspy up top. it sounds a lot like the m3 exhaust. i thought that the m5 exhaust would be more deeper and throatier.

Dinan designed their exhaust to be used with the factory resonators, so if you add the x pipe it is pretty loud/raspy! You could always add some aftermarket resonators to the x pipe to tone it down, or trade someone for their factory resonators/crossover pipe.

Re: dinan exhaust question

Mike,

How would aftermarket resonators help the situation? If stated that the X-pipe (resonator) is what is making the exhaust so raspy. Could you explain your reasoning?

Re: dinan exhaust question

You know, I may have misunderstood the original post. Dinan's exhaust does not include an X pipe, the factory resonators/crossover are retained. When the original poster said he had the dinan exhaust with the X pipe, i assumed he meant a supersprint X pipe, which obviously has no resonators.
THe dinan exhausts that I have heard with the factory resonators sounded very nice, imo, while those with the supersprint x pipe were loud and raspy. THat's where I came up with my conclusion, which may be incorrect.

Re: dinan exhaust question

Before I purchased my dinan exhaust i was a little scared by the dinan 'raspy' comments on this board, but now after install do not hear it and really enjoy the sound. I agree that the dinan mufflers are tuned to the stock resonators, with the intent low noise at idle, loud and angry during full throttle/ higher rpms, and lastly maintaining a relative quiet in the cabin.

Re: dinan exhaust question

Mike,

I get what your saying. I to agree that the Dinan exhaust alone sounds great, but with an X-pipe it is to raspy.
