50-70 mph......autocar says the beast will do it in 6.8secs!

Hi all

In the back of autocar(an informative weekly read )i was looking at the performance stats for the M5 and it not only showed 5.3 to 60mph(which in itself is blasphemous if you ask me.)but it had the M5 doing 50-70 in 6.8 secs?!I cant see this happening it doesnt make sense?!Do you think it is just a stupid typo and im getting a little bit too uptight? And if so do you think we should write in and ask them to change it?Hehe that would be cool....anyone know what our beasts should do that 50-70mph dash in?About 3.9-4.0 secs maybe?
Cheers

I believe that time would be with the car in 6th gear without down shifting which sounds about right. That is a comparison most of the car magazines make with the auto trans cars always winning.

These figures are not correct because the car they tested that time had a slipping clutch. They have tested the M5 one more time versus Alpina B10 V8. In that test they got 0-60mph in 4,6 seconds och 0-100mph in 10,6. Impressive...

Perhaps they had 5 people in the car when they did their test?

Call me a M5 geek but I saved the Autoweek and Car and Driver test results.

Autoweek ran 60-80 mph in 3.2 sec in third gear. C&D turned a 7.0 sec 50-70 using 6th.

BTW Autoweek also ran 20-40 in 2.1 and 40-60 in 2.2 both using second gear. Dam fast!

For reference, Autoweek in the same issue ran the Merc E55, in 1.8, 2.7 and 3.7 sec (60-80 mph which included a shift from 2nd to 3rd) for the same rolling acceleration tests.
