I have a really stupid question that should be obvious. I need to mount a front license plate on my car. It looks like there are two different sets of holes outside the 4 that hold the actual license plate. I can figure out which set up holes to use. Can someone let me know as I circled the two different set up holes one in black one in red.
I believe the ones you circled in black screw into the bumper and the other 4 (that make a rectangle) are for the actual license plate. Just line it up and it should be easy to tell. IMO, the OEM bracket looks a lot better than a tow hook mount.
I bought tow-hook adapters from Turner Motorsports for my '02 M5, my '01 Z8, and my son's '08 328xi. They are high-quality units made of stainless steel, very well engineered, and I think they were about $70.00 each. Don't drill your bumper if it hasn't been done already.
I use the Skenedesign mentioned in post #10. It works very well. The attchement point it on the underside of the bumper. You are supposed use two very small screws in addition to double sided tape. But you can probably just use the double sided tape I think I ran my plate with just the tape for a couple months before I added the screws for peace of mind. Keep in mind if you do use the screws it is on the underside of the bumper and not visible.
I like the Skene as well, ordered 1 yesterday. Even though my M has the nasty holes from a previously removed OEM bracket, I prefer the way the license plate looks like it's floating off the bumper. The OEM bracket looks too bulky IMO. I'll put little rubber bumpers over the old holes for now.
That DIY does look cool. I have a Turner tow-hook holder i picked up from a forum member that does the job ($45 IIRC), but that DIY is even better.
