E39 M5 Auto?

Could anyone tell me if there was an option of automatic or smg on the E39 M5, as far as I know there wasn't, but somebody told me the other day that there was, were they winding me up?

Re: E39 M5 Auto?

No-never, but an Alpina B10 4.8S might be the "M5" youre thinking about

Nope. I believe a lot of folks are confused as there was an "M appearance package" available on some of the 5's. A buddy of mine at the office has an '01 540 with the "M appearance package" and to the underinformed, it looks a lot like mine. I tell them at first glance to look at the mirrors and rear view mirror first. I know..I know..some guys spend the dough to change these out as well but it is a good "first glance" check.
