I agree, but it is the severity of it that changes my position. My bud went flying off a cliff today backwards in his E36, and walked away unharmed. Rolled the bad boy 5 times. In a time like that, screw the car, it did it's job by keeping my bud safe. But someone being neglectful and doing something like burning a hole in my seat with a cigarette pisses me off to no end.
Not to mention someone who doesnt usually drive high performance cars usually tries out the safety features sooner than someone who has good car control, so not letting some people drive your car keeps you from either replacing a car or loosing someone.
