'01 M5 advise
Hello,
I am looking at a 2001 Silver on black M5 with Nav and Coldweather package. it has 42000 miles on it, one owner.
The car drives great, the only thing I noticed that going from first to second gear was a little hard, I felt some resistance and it was like the gears did not synchronise very well. This became better as the engine warmed up, but it did not feel like the other BMW's I have driven before (M3, 540i).
Is this something I have to be concerned about?
The dealer is asking $46900 for the car and got them down to $46000 including CPO warranty (they did not plan on certifying the car).
Do you think this is a good deal?
The car looks great, a few scratches on the rims and the black plastic underneath the front spoiler is pretty much all cracked (diffuser?)
Your comments are greatly appreciated
Thanks

Re: '01 M5 advise
Shifting my '03 with 21k miles on it definitely gets easier once the gearbox is warmed up. It's mostly just going from 1st to 2nd when it's cold that's a bit tough.

00 w/62K, 1-2 is kind of balky when cold, after a few minutes it's better but still feels different than other shifts. I better get the UUC shifter!

Sounds like a pretty good deal. I didn't realize there was a cold weather package on the M5. Not that it'd be much use here in Southern California.

I'm here in LA, and I *love* having heated seats. They heat up really quick, so even if the air inside the car is chilly, you are warm. And my wife's even faster at pressing the seat-heat buttons than I am!

All US M5's came with what would be known as the cold weather package on other E39's as standard equipment. Same story with Navigation. There were very few options on the standard (fully loaded) US M5: rear shades, M-Audio, PDC, sport or luxury interior, split fold-down rear seats, and rear spoiler deletion.

Thanks. Looks like I have all of it except the rear shades. I have the luxury leather and rear spoiler is still mounted. I wish I had the rear shades.

Don't believe rear shades were available with lux interior, at least in the US.

Jerry

Re: '01 M5 advise
What is the lux interior? Are these the comfort seats?

Luxury interior, as opposed to sport interior. Luxury had the wood grain look, as well as the single color seats. Sport is silver/aluminum look trim and different ribbing on the seats, most are two tone colored.

Jerry
