Just don't do it with a full tank, and watch carefully where you remove the transfer pump fuel line from! It clicks into place. I had to see one in the Clemsters side yard to figure out how it went back in...
Around 130k. I replaced the fuel filter a while after I replaced the pump. I relieved the pressure in the the fuel system by running the car with the fuel pump fuse out. I pulled the front hose off the filter, only about a drop came out. When I pulled the back hose, fuel shot out in a stream that reached about 6 feet behind the car. So, I'd say it was pretty clogged...
I was getting fuel trim codes (90&91), hunting idle at startup, stuttering at wide open throttle, and last but not least: the beast would run out of gas way before the low fuel light came on.
Just to be sure it was the pump, I replaced the fuel filter first, same symptoms.
All of those symptoms went away with a new fuel pump.
