Post Has anyone got aluminum shift knob replaced?

I know they had peeling problems. If they were replaced was the peeling problem fixed? I have a 2001 and would like to order the aluminum finish knob since mine came in leather. Thanks for any help.

I had two aluminum ones on my carbon black M5 and they both peeled. Stick with the leather, they have not fixed the problem. Where in Irvine are you? I live there as well. We need to get together if you have the time.

My first one lasted about 3000 miles. The replacement is going strong at 15,000 miles +, although I think I see one tiny spot that could develop into a new failure. I've heard the new replacements are all black leather.

Had problems with the aluminum shift knob and had it replaced with the leather version, I also got then to replace the handbrake as well (4hr job?). Aluminium looks better, but leather more durable.

Had my brake and shift knob replaced at about 2500 miles. Now with 14,000 miles have not had any problems at all!

I had the aluminum shift knob, handbrake handle and the center console replaced on my '00. The replacements seem to be more durable. It is still holding up after thousand of miles.
