BMW has a unique DNA but i had to get a C55
Give all of you an update. I just bought a MBZ C55 and drove it for only 100 miles over two days. Here are some thoughts -
BMWs are truely unique - i have owned many and still own a x5 - just sold my m5 to get the c55. all bmw have a similar dna of driver feel and all mbz even amgs have a "softer" luxury feel.
I am getting a friend's 540 2000 6spd in six months as our third car, and i wanted a smaller car car automatic to replace my M5 as my daily "me only" driver.
So i looked at everything from g35, rx-8, to s4, to 330, and of course m3.
c55 ruled the day. I wish bmw had a v8 in a 3 series body....becasue as anyone w/ a m5 knows there is no substitute for the torque/displacement of a v8. And i wanted the feel of a smaller car...since my car will only need me in the car 97% of the time. sipping through traffic and parking lots - smaller is definately better.
i have to say the c55 is really nice inside and out...much improved from teh c32. visually w/ the longer front and w/ the v8 and new interior. but i miss the road feel of a bmw. oh well - in case you wondered....i had a long test drive of the m3 w/ smg....ugh...the smg is very strange in auto mode.
ps i thought for 57k drive out price for a 5.4 liter v8 w/ amg on a mbz germany car is not bad relative to porsches.

Re: BMW has a unique DNA but i had to get a C55
I havent read any threads yet on it but I would think a bit better than the C32 in terms of feeling but not at all like the M5. C55 has a different front (looks better) so now it can incorporate the V8 instead of the V6 Kompressor from the C32. It is also avail. C55 Estate.

That's kind of like saying Porsches are a great deal, relative to Ferrari's.
Anyways, the C55 seems like it would be a very fun car to rip around in. And four doors always comes in handy. I used to drive a e36 M3 sedan.

Re: BMW has a unique DNA but i had to get a C55
Nice car. I went to the MB dealer two days ago to look at the C55. I looked at the C55 and an E55, but didn't drive either. I felt the E55 suited my needs more in terms of passenger room...particularly in the rear. I suppose the C-class is more comparable to the 3-series and the E-class is more comparable to the 5-series? Oh, and I don't have $80K+ for the E55. The C55 looks low and wide standing in front of the car...much more petite but very capable.

Congrats on your new purchase,
The C55 is a great new sports sedan, however nothing can be compared to the M5 and nothing replaces the 6spd gearbox....have fun
