I just replaced the Mafs with 2G2 029 from Bimmerzone
Would it make sense to reset adaptions?

rao gives such bald answers. I like nuance, a little uncertainty, some prevarication. If you replaced the MAF's because you knew the MAF's were bad , you had MAF codes, and the car was running horribly, you should reset the adaptations. Otherwise you may get fuel trim codes as the DME struggles to accommodate the flood of accurate air flow information it is now getting. And it may take a few tens or hundreds of miles before it sorts it out. If the replacement was just preventive mtce and you had no MAF-related problems, you don't need to.

Thanks all

I replaced the Mafs because They were the last of the sensors to replace since I have owned it.
I couldn't find a date code and couldn't pass 124 on the Maf test.
the car is at 106K, bone stock and runs like a champ!
now I need to be convinced first hand on a muffler delete!

how do you reset the adaptations?

i wish i knew anything about inpa.
I have the 20pin cable and the OBDII cable with the serial port and a computer,
just dont know if i need an adapter of any sort. I never found a simple thread that explains it.

so I will have to find someone to reset it for me.

Don't bother. Just drive it. The car will adapt and I doubt you'll be able to tell the difference, other than possible improved drive-ability.

I am not sure I agree with either but side more with 68. I would drive it through the changes. The way adaptions work and the number that are reset have caused many problems on the reset, for many people. If you really understand how the car will go through its changes as the adaptions are made, fine have at it. If you know everything else in the car is perfect, fine have at it. Of coarse you have to watch the changes and decide what other sensors are now out of tolerance.

Rao I assume you know nothing more about the car than what was posted, if you know more then this may not apply.
At minimum all the other adaptions should be viewed and if all are close to zero, fine have at it. If the car has weak O2s and a slightly sticky ICV or any other combo of weak sensors or devices. Will they adapt correctly when you clear things? Not likely because there are two problems. The original adaptions where changed with only one weak part, easy for the DME to figure.
Once you clear all the adaptions the car has to start all over again and with a couple of sensors out it may not get it right. If you only change one sensor (or set), it is a fools game to reset adaptions. On a single sensor change no matter what one the car will adapt on its own fine.

The only reason I see to reset adaptions is for diagnostics when you really can't figure out what is wrong and need to see the changes or if you change out multiple sensors at the same time, which I also think is a fools game. One at a time with driving in between. The only other time would be prior to tuning but I class that to diagnostics.

can anyone verify a way to tell if an MAF is Original or a knock off?
