P0101 Code

I posted my MAF readings, and i dont experience any stalling or lack of power. but i have a P0101 Pending code. if i Clear the code, car runs a bit rough for 2 minutes, throws all kinds of codes, then goes back to normal and the codes go away.

because of this pending code i cannot get any of the Monitors ready for inspection. what should i do from here? invest in a diagnostic tool? INPA? peake? i appreciate any advice i can get from here.

P0101 - Mass Air Flow Sensor Circuit Range/Performance

The mass airflow sensor (MAF) measures the amount of air entering the engine. The OBD-II code P0101 is set when the signal from the mass air flow sensor is out of expected range, or in other words, the MAF sensor doesn't work properly. In most cases, this code is not very difficult to diagnose.

The engine computer uses the mass air flow sensor signal to determine how much fuel to inject. If the sensor doesn't measure the air flow correctly, the fuel injection system won't work properly.

Common symptoms include:
- Stalling
- Difficulty starting
- The engine starts and stalls
- Lack of power
- Unstable idle
Because the mass air flow sensor readings are used to calculate the engine load, the traction control system may stop working and the traction control warning light might also come on on the dash. For the same reason, the automatic transmission shifting pattern may also change.

Your MAFS test looks good although I believe dirty MAFS can cause issues at different rpm ranges.
Running INPA at hot idle and while driving would give more info.
How old are they? You may be able to get through inspection by simply giving them a good cleaning.

Anyway the bottom line is when the code is set the MAFs are turned off and the car goes into MAFless mode. That makes your MAF test pointless because it is only reading existing trims.

You need to replace your MAFs, why don't you seem to get that? If it is because the symptoms go away then you have the answer to why, just replace the MAFs.

Purchased a pair of BOSCH 128 06019 102. They will arrive monday for $210 at BMA

That part number and price concern me for knockoffs..... if your your problem does not go away after some miles I would be concerned about bogus MAFS.
Can anyone vouch for that part number? I know the legit ones with housings end in 566 and go for $300 a pair.

Installed the New MAFs and the code P0101 (PENDING) Went away, I instantly checked and got 2 more monitors ready for inspection. and car ran alot smoother. after driving about 10miles, i come home, check the code reader again and found 2 more Pending Codes P0171 and P0174

I also planned to replace all the O2 sensors, but the ones on the car right now, doesnt look too old.

i plan to replace them anyway, but when i looked underneath the car, they didnt look old. but its just visual.

tried to check if there is a vaccum leak ( closed the 2 ends before bellows, car stalled within 10seconds with no hissing sounds

thank you ^^ i will try driving my car 10-20miles today and see if that changes anything.

I was going to suggest the above re: giving the new MAF's time to adjust fuelling.

A few threads appeared here within the last 6 months regrading replacing MAF's and new fuelling codes appearing with them.

I know a couple of people said it including myself, that the new MAF's could have been fake Bosch, or not OEM and urged the OP's to check, however it was assured in those threads that the new MAF's were indeed OE.

Both of those threads concluded with the the OP's cars settling down after a hundred miles or so with no new codes. I can only suggest at this point that sometimes when a MAF gets so bad its actually flagging its own code or makign the car behave so erratically, that when a new one is installed the DME is so extreme and out of kilter with its compensated settings that it upsets the car with new MAF's and throws codes temporarily

after last nights vacuum test, i believe the engine sucked some oil from the crank case, it went away after the car warmed up ( about 10minutes )
my vent hoses are really soft/oily, so i ordered them, they will be replaced asap. when i did the test my hands were really oily

I did check the oil, its stable, halfway mark. has been that way 900 miles ago too

Yeah, you can't just block of the two air tubes with the engine running. I think the threads about this test warn you about that. It will suck a ton of oil into the plenum and into the engine.

I'm waiting for someone to collapse their plenum doing this test.:eek:oohhh: The supercharged guys explode plenums at 10-15 psi boost, IIRC. Blocking off those tubes can generate -10 psi vacuum in the plenum. I doubt BMW foresaw this test.

i agree, it was pulling really hard, but last time i will do it, i found no leaks or hissing sounds.

i matched the housing part numbers with my OLD MAF, and they were accurate.
FCP has the same items for $130 each, how would you know the $150 each MAF's are the OEM ones?

it was $225 for 2
i used a coupon for 5% off

is there a way to check if its fake or not?

i called them and they confirmed that its an OEM Bosch part
I have to take the sensor out of the housing and verify.

How many miles have you driven? Don't get me wrong old O2 sensors could have a lot to do with that. The part number when googled does not come up Bosch nor is it the correct part. 13621433566 is the correct #
The # on your bill is also the correct number. Were the boxes sealed with a security sticker?
Here is the problem, look how many different guys make fake MAFs. and look at the pricing 40 for a pair. It is no wonder so many are selling fakes.

i see, ive driven probably 50miles, question is, how do i identify if they are bosch?

I believe both old and new MAF's are Bosch with the correct part numbers.

The New MAF has the Little Bosch logo as well on the left side of the image. it just didnt appear
