I recently purchased a new M5 (LOVE IT!), but have been told how expensive servicing the car will be after 36,00 miles. Has anyone purchased the extended 4yr/50,000 mile maintenance program? If so, how much? Will this cost vary between dealers?
Also, has anyone puchased an extended bumper to bumper warranty? My dealer quoted $3,000 for a 7yr/100,000 mile program with a $50 deductible. It seems that each dealer goes through different warranty carriers and the prices vary greatly. I spoke to one dealer who said the company they use is the one BMW NA went through in the past for extended warranties. Please help with any advice. Thanks.
It costs $500 for the extra year of service; seems like a reasonable deal. The 7 year warranty is also something I bought, from Warranty Gold. It cost $2700 for their best "Diamond" coverage, with zero deductible (888-249-3670, Joe x4717). They're supposed to be the best independent warranty company (unlike MB, BMW doesnt have its own warranty), though there are 2 others I know of: DFS, offered by many BMW dealers and supposedly very good, but more expensive (732-287-5453, ask for Steve Portner). Also, AutoAdvantage (800-993-9190). Just be sure you plan to keep the car; many people buy these and then sell after 4-5 years. Also, be aware that like for managed care medical insurance, you must get "pre-authorization" before repair.

BMW does offer its own extended warranty through its Certified BMW program. You have to to have your car "certified" by a BMW dealer. Once it is certified you can buy a 7 year 100,000 mile warranty from BMWNA. That's what I was told by United BMW in Duluth, Georgia.
I was quoted $699 for the extra (fourth) year of service and $3599 for the "platinum" 7-yr-100k mi. warranty from my dealer ($100 deductable). Of course this is Calif., home of the greedy dealer. Does this sound unusually high? Can I buy these "products" from dealers other than the one I took delivery at?
I don't have my bill in front of me but I think I paid $795 for the 4th year maintenance.
In any case, I think it's well worth it since it covers any expenses other than tires. I like the idea of bring the car to the dealer, simply dropping off the key and not worrying about if it's covered, how much will I have to pay, etc. Peace of mind.
I purchased the 84 month 100k mile warranty at time of vehicle delivery. It says on the paperwork given to me by the dealer that the company they used was Universal Warranty Corp. $50 deductible. My cost was $1900 bumper to bumper coverage. I also purchased the extra year of full maintenance for $500 this is covered by BMW North Amer. and I have a card that I can show at any authorized BMW dealer to get service. I think I negotiated the F&I person down several hundred on the 100K warranty since they seemed so hungry to sell it. (originally they wanted $2700 but I felt like I was in the driver seat that day and so I said "lets see...I paid full list for the car, luxury tax, gas guzzler tax, sales tax, excise tax, frt, and you want how much more to cover this marvelous machine for a few extra thousand miles????" (My check was already made out for roughly $78,000-the exact amount for the vehicle.) The F&I lady said "let me see what we can do about a better price on this 100k warrany program.." she came back in a few minutes and said her manager authorized her to write it up at their cost. I moaned a little and said "is that the best you can do ????" She said "yes" I Gave her my credit card and ask if she could do a little better on the 1 yr extension of service?? She said "we probably shouldn't push it" since I was just given the 100k bumper to bumper at dealer cost to show me a little concession for having to pay full MSRP and wait 8 months for delivery. Little did she know I was so excited to get the car I really was already happy just to have that Beast out on the lot w/my name on it idling waiting for me...I was just digging around for a little gold in those hills and I found it! They wanted me leaving the dealership completely satisfied since it was Big M5 delivery day & all the sales force and guests were looking on with intense interest taking pictures etc. I was and am and ever shall be satisfied at least for 100,000 miles.
