Re: Need new Radar Detector...

K-40's mounted system is the best! It has saved me about a hundred times.

Re: Need new Radar Detector...

I've kept radar detectors in all three cars for over twenty years, mostly BEL and a few Whistler units. These were all remote versions with the antenna in the grill and the control unit inside the car. They all seemed to wear out after a couple years, so I've owned a bunch of them.

I feel stupid for not getting a Valentine 1 sooner. The V-1 directional arrows are the key. When I drive a car with a "normal" (non V-1) detector, it's like hunting deer with a BB gun.

And don't forget a side order of Lidatek LE30.

Re: Need new Radar Detector...

What is this Lidatek LE30 Unit? What does it do? Is it legal in california, if not is it detectable or can I go to jail for using this product?

Thanks

Re: Need new Radar Detector...

I considered the K40 unit, but the idea of it being permanently installed and the cost of $1,400.00 pushed me into the Valentine One with the StealthOne module. That entire package cost $650.00 and I have the option of moving the V-1 to my LandCrusier or CLK500 when the occasion arises.. The only downside of the V-1 is that it does not have a Laser countermeasure feature built in. I plan to purchase a Lidatek LE-30 unit ($400.00 plus installation) when the DPS in Arizona begin to use laser on the Interstates. Either the K40 or Valentine One would give you a great piece of mind when flying down the highway in the Beast

Re: Need new Radar Detector...

Purchased an Escort X50 to compare to the V1 which is the one I have been using for many years. The X50 is vastly improved (IMO) over previous Escort Models. I set the two side-by-side on a recent trip to/from Florida from New Jersey. The V1 was actually quicker at picking up KA band. On some instances the X50 did not pick it up until the police car was too close. Since my test was unscientific, I cannot comment on whether on not X50 can pick up the POP (instant on) better than the V1. There were two big differences that point toward the V1 as the best choice. First the direction arrows. Whilst others have stated that they do not need the arrows, believe me the arrows are a life saver. The second is that the X50 display is too small. The V1 is easy to see (I use it mounted on the dash or on the windshield). The X50 is too small to see without my reading glasses. So I recommend the V1.

Re: Need new Radar Detector...

Definitely the V1. I worked for a company that sells both the K40 undetectable (over $1k) and the Escort, and the V1 is a better detector than both.

If you want real laser protection, get the Lidatek.
