"AUX" mode (lack-of) volume problem for I-PODs & DVD movies........

Hi Guys,
Okay, just to briefly re-cap the the scenario, I recently had a great DVD movie playing system installed into my car. The system works as it should and it's awesome! The only issue I had with the DVD system was when I was playing movies in the "AUX" mode, the volume wasn't as loud as I thought it should be. The CD changer audio CDs were louder and also the radio when playing, was much louder than when watching the DVD movies. I'd have to max out the volume knob on the radio, in order to have an acceptable audio level. I knew something wasn't right about this. So, when I started seeing several guys on this board post there messages about the "lack of volume" with there newly installed I-POD's, it immediately made me think of my situation and whether there was a common problem between the two (I-POD and DVD movie) low volume issue at hand. Knowing the two systems are connected directly to the "AUX" jack located at the back of the OEM BMW radio unit made this seem all the more evident.

I visited the web site known as WWW.ROADFLY.COM, and went to there
Audio/Video Message Board. Once there, I posted a new message about my problem. I promptly recieved a reply from a Roadfly member known as "UCrewX5" (first name is Jeff). He informed me that there is a solution and recommended I do the following to increase the audio sound/volume when in the "AUX" mode. *** Step 1, you press the "mode" button on your radio, until you scroll to the "AUX" mode. Step 2, Once your at the aux mode, you'll see on the top right hand corner of your NAV screen the letter "P". You have to press the number #6 preset button located on your radio. You'll then see the letter "P" change and turn into "P6". When its in this setting, your volume is at it's maximum, during DVD playing/watching and Im certain, your I-POD volume will be increased as well!
I played around with the other preset bottons, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. I discovered that as you lower the numeral the volume decreases and preset button # 1 is for the lowest setting of sound, when in the "AUX" mode. So, once again, you want the setting to be at preset button #6, which is the highest possible volume possible.
Doing this, resolved my issue of not having enough sound when playing/watching DVD movies with my DVD changer system. I feel confident that if you do exactly what I did and suggest, it will also resolve your "lack of volume" problem. Please try it as soon as you can, and report back to this thread, with your results. Im sure its going to work for you guys.
Report back ASAP !

Robert
Thanks to Roadfly member, UCrewX5.

Robert, is there a post with more information on your DVD system? If not, would you mind makin one or PMing me some info on it? I could care less about tv, I just want a dvd system and I know it can be done for well under $800, just not sure what needs to be done.

Thanks for this information.

Re: "AUX" mode (lack-of) volume problem for I-PODs & DVD movies........

Robert

First, I have had no volume issues with the Aux/ipod setup in my car but I saw your post and immediately went out to the parking lot to check out my settings. I was in the P1 mode and quickly switched over to P6. The volume increase was as you noted.

I would think that there may be other issues with the Ipoder's having volume issues since mine worked perfectly well in P1.

Good find tho, love these little tidbits.

regards

Methinks "P" stands for Preset...but don't take it to the bank.

Re: "AUX" mode (lack-of) volume problem for I-PODs & DVD movies........

Thanks FAST_5! Your solution gets me nearly all the way there! Hitting the radio preset "6" while in Aux mode, changed the value on the nav screen from P1 to P6...and the volume was significantly louder. But still it is not as loud or as full sounding as my cd-changer. I'm thinking that the final step will be when I get the adapter I ordered to go from line out - instead of the headphone jack - to the aux input. I'll give an update on that when it arrives...

Re: "AUX" mode (lack-of) volume problem for I-PODs & DVD movies........

FINAL WRAP UP AND SOLUTION:

To solve the problem of low volume using the auxiliary input:

1) Increase the auxiliary input volume setting using the radio preset buttons as described above...this makes a big difference as it appears that the default setting is the lowest volume level.

2) Use a line level output from the auxiliary source NOT the headphone jack!! I purchased the adapter shown below that connects via the ipod's dock connector (line out) to a mini-jack socket. Then I used a six-foot long mini-to-mini cable to the aux input jack. Now I can pass the ipod back to the back seat if I want to! The volume control on the ipod will now be disabled, just use the car's volume control. I actually had my ipod playing LOUDER than my cd-changer source at the same volume level...I had to reduce my aux input volume preset from P6 to P4. Bass response also returned and was almost too much bass! Again, if you are using the headphone jack, you are missing out.

I'm totally happy now! The adapter I purchased looks like this:

and it came from here:
http://store.sik.com/merchant.mv?Scr...t_Code=03-1004

and it cost $29.95. Belkin also has a car adapter that looks like it would work fine. Both units have the added bonus of being able to charge the ipod as well. I like the SiK unit since the line out adapter and charger can be seperated.

Happy listening!!
