Anyone know how to set the Home link system?

Need help guys,

I have been going nuts trying to get the home link system to work in my M5 (memory buttons adjacent to the Sunroof open/close button. I just relocated into a gated community in Florida where I must use a remote to get in. I set the ignition key to the #2 position and held the #1 and #2 buttons hoping to see them blink before commencing the remote control learning process. Unfortunately, I received no response. Am I missing a step? Any help would be truly appreciated

Re: Anyone know how to set the Home link system?

I beleive you are supposed to hold in buttons 1 and 3 to reset the sytem and then go through the procedure that is in the owner manual.

Re: Anyone know how to set the Home link system?

Ahh...possibly the same problem with my gates.

Homelink works by first sampling the signal from your regular remote so that it can copy it. It does this by you repeatedly triggering your remote so it can 'listen'...when it listens enough it copies it and sets a light so you know to stop.

Here's the problem- some remotes have a long code- if you follow the procedure in the manual you MIGHT be pressing the remote too often and interrupting the code so homelink never gets the right copy- I tried to just slow down my repetition rate- worked like a charm.

The garage doors had no problem- just the gates.

PS let us know what works...

It seems to me in just trying to program some things, that if it's a rolling code system, you have no luck making it work...Course thats just one mans experience.

Re: Anyone know how to set the Home link system?

Yep- but most gates don't use the security of a rolling code system. Many gates have a code that IDs the actual transmitter, so that they can keep track of who's coming and going.

I tried holding down the #1 & #3 buttons for a few seconds to set the system to learn, but I'm not getting the buttons to blink, which will signify that the system is ready to copy the code. How do I get those buttons to blink? Can you give me a step by step how you got yours to work? These remotes are driving me nuts. one for the gate, one for the garage, and another for the alarm system.

Re: Anyone know how to set the Home link system?

Maybe it's just me, but do the instructions on homelink.com not work?

First Time Programming: http://www.homelink.com/program/first.html
Gate: http://www.homelink.com/program/gate.tml
Garage Door Opener: http://www.homelink.com/program/gdo.html
Erase Everything: http://www.homelink.com/program/erase.html
All instructions in one file: http://www.homelink.com/program/hlmanual.pdf

Seem mighty similar to the OEM instructions for the homelink gdo in my 540.

Luck!
