Does TMC work in the UK?
Hi
I've noticed the letters TMC pop up on my monitor a few seconds after start up, but I've never seen any traffic information on my Nav screen. Does it work or do I need to subscribe to something??

It works, but it depends on the disc you have. If you have DVD you should be fine, but if it's CD then only the 2003 discs work with it (04 don't for some strange reason)
You can tell if it's working by the colour of the logo:
Red=Disc doesn't support it
White=No signal or disc doesn't support it
Green=Working

Re: Does TMC work in the UK?
mine worked well when i first got the car, then after a couple of months clicked off. I dont do a lot of rush hour driving so im not too bothered.
I think you have to subscribe.....is it the blue tall cameras that support this system?
cheers

Re: Does TMC work in the UK?
OK I think it comes up in White currently. The cars is a 1999 and the disc is a 2002 one. Would I need to upgrade the software or is it just a matter of getting a 2003 disc?

TMC doesn't need a subscription, it should just work, aslong as the disc supports it and the TMC is set to Classic. It's trafficmaster that needs subs (you get 3 years 'free') and uses the cameras on the motorway, TMC uses GPS trasmitters in AA vans, Eddie Stobarts etc

Just getting the right disc should do, I replaced my 2002-2 with the 2003 disc and TMC has worked ever since.

Re: Does TMC work in the UK?
I had a 2001-2 disc when I first got my car and it didn't work (TMC stayed red).
A fellow board member kindly gave me a newer (2003) CD and now it works great - TMC comes up in green and I get full traffic info including displayed delays and suggested diversions

Re: Does TMC work in the UK?
You can get a 2003-2 copy with TMC from edonkey. All you do is download the free file shareing software and search for Navtech or VDO and you'll find it.
Download the file and use CloneCD at slow (i.e 1x) copy and it should be ok.

I agree the radio has to be set to Classic FM. I got the car back after a service and the radio was on a differnet channel and the TMC was white or grey, after changing to Classic it turned green and worked fine. I am using the 2003-1 CD in a Mk2 system.

Re: Does TMC work in the UK?
So - the TMC symbol displays in Black on my car. I've got classic fm tuned as the RDS station, but never seem to get any info. Am away from home right now, but going to try the e-donkey thing tomorrow when I get back. Mine is one of the first UK cars brought in in 99. Could it be that it's just too old?

Re: Does TMC work in the UK?
I'm confused ! I got my 2001 M5 about 4wks ago now and it came with a 2000 year CD for SatNav. So I upgraded the firmware of the SatNav - from 3-1/40 to 3-1/63 using v23. Everything works fine - still no TMC though.
I borrowed a 2003-2 CD from a friend - still no TMC (infact he didnt get TMC on his 2003 330d Touring - the car the disc came from)
So I bought a 2005-2 CD from Germany (on eBay) and STILL no TMC ?!?!!? I've changed the radio to Classic but dont get the green TMC letters.
Anyone got any ideas ?
Cheers
Chris
PS - oil - oh my god - 1litre every 400-500 miles at the moment.....but thats a little off topic !
