I live in Chapel Hill and own an Anthracite M5 as Tim sez. btw, today is the Drive for Cancer at Perfomance in Chapel Hill and I'll be there later this afternoon. Supposedly they will have a new M3 to be test driven!

ahhh i didn't know there was an event at performance! i am a rising senior at carolina and have always dreamed of owning an m5...i think anthracite is the best color and then le mans blue...but i would take any m5 (unfortunately, i don't have the funds) the silver m5 at performance was supposedly owned by a stock broker that sold it back to the dealer to buy a new ferrari...he only does stock deals if they are more than 5mil and he buys a new car every 3-4 months...I would love to test drive an M5 or even ride in one while someone else drove it, but being 20-21, most salesmen know i can't afford to buy a car like that...plus to actually see one in a dealership is rare. there was a black m3 (dirty and muddy) parked at university square on franklin st. they look nice! but I think i'd still rather have an m5 (at twice the price ) Oh well, I guess I am a dreamer! Right now I own a 96 Jeep Grand Cherokee and lusted after the 5.9L v8 Grands until I found out about bmw m5's...

          dmcgibbo,

Your ambitions are well placed. Your color choices are also pretty good (Lemans Blue is my 2nd choice).

Well, I went to the Drive today, but unfortunatley did not drive the M3 - the slots were all taken. I did take an X5 3.0 for a spin though. Suprisingly it is peppy considering the lack of hp (compared to the M5 of course).

I've seen various M5s in the area. I've talked to the owner of a royal red whose daughter in the same class as a friends daughter. My buddy lives a couple of houses from me and I saw the Royal M5 parked in front of my house during a birthday party so I had to introduce myself. There is also a Lemans blue owned by a venture capitalist and another Anthracite owned the president of the American Pediatrics Association (lives in Durham). These are just people I've met. I think there is a guy from Raleigh who posts on this board as well.

So, if you look there are some around the area.

          Good Luck, -Juan

          Juan,

I would have thought Norma would have been first on the list to test drive the new M3??

          Andy,

Norma is telling me that she would like to have a 6-speed - the auto tranny in the 330 is just too boring. She is pumping me up for an m3 convertible...who knows.

I live in Raleigh and have a black M5. My wife's doctor has a blue M5, and one of my neighbors also has a black M5, which he wrecked the second day he got it (someone sideswiped him).

dmcgibbo, you go to a great school, notwithstanding the b-ball program which has been easily surpassed by the dookies next door.

juan, are you happy with the service at performance. i have my car serviced at leith in raleigh--although i had the dinan software installed at performance.

          steveB,

You were who I was referring to in my earlier post. Sorry to hear about your neighbor's M5 - hope noone was injured. Ouch, after only 2 days - I would have cried.

Performance is OK - nothing special I can say about them. They do their work and treat me well. I've had all my Dinan work done there (s/w, exhaust, stage 2, cai). They are also a Dinan Authorized Dealer. One of their best mechanics who did all my work recently left which was a bummer since I had gotten to know him and called him directly a few times. Best thing for me is that I live less than 5 mi from there. Shelly Rothman is the service person that I use but the important thing is to know the guys in the back that do the work.

          Take Care, -Juan
