Re: Need a good stereo install shop around Irvine, CA
I know a place in Montclair, CA. They do custom work mostly for high end vehicles, boats, and have a home audio section also. Its called Transonic. Ask for Jay.
Re: Need a good stereo install shop around Irvine, CA
The closest one I'd suggest is down the highway three miles off Oso Parkway. For the life of me I can't think of the name.
It's just past the Krispy Kream on the right, which you can see from the highway.
There might be some shops next to the Irvine auto mall you can try.
Re: Need a good stereo install shop around Irvine, CA
I drove from South Dakota to California to Sounds Good owned by Issac Goren in Woodland Hills. He did my 750. I did a ton of research looking for someone who could integrate the BWM head unit, phone, etc. with no problems and this guy did it all right. No marred interior pieces, no rattles, no noises. I spent 7K for two amps, speakers, and install, plus he integrated the radar detector.... and it was worth every cent. I found him from an article in Car Audio or something like that, he had done a Ferrari with no extra holes drilled, and the owner was thrilled. When I pulled into his shop I was skeptical until I saw the high end cars in there. He strips the interior and puts it in a clean room before he starts. Four years later and no problems. I did a ton of audio when I was in college and this guy made on 12 and four MB Quart speakers, with a factory head unit, sound better than any car stereo I have heard since.
I'm telling you, he's your guy. He works out of a nondescript shop and he's a little hard to talk to on the phone, but he doesn't oversell his work.
Re: Need a good stereo install shop around Irvine, CA
Four pair of MB Quart's the second from their top end, they are like $750 a pair. I moved the tweeters to the rear deck so they weren't right at shoulder level. I have done Boston Acoustic's pro series as well and the MB's are far far superior. Issac wanted to do two 12's and I assured him I didn't need that much bass, but he insisted on putting 1000 watts on high and low end. I did one twelve and brought it through where the ski bag was. Nothing visible from inside the car. He takes apart all the crossovers and resolders everthing to make certain nothing ever comes loose. When you open the trunk all you see is what appears to be one Large amp, he put a bridge between the amps and there are no exposed wires.
I didn't understand the whole concept of needing so much power, but the difference is remarkable. After I had Issac do this system I had my local shop do my 540i 6-spd. Figuring they couldn't screw it up with the other system as a reference...well. It always had noise, pops etc., the fit and finish wasn't nearly as good, and I did far less on the speakers etc for over half the money.
Yeah, like an M, this stuff is expensive, but it's worth it. The 7 had the worst stereo I have ever heard in a car. No bass. A Toyota tercel from the 80's would be the equivalent. The M audio isn't bad, but no comparision, but also for the few miles a year not worth the upgrade, plus I knew the 7 would be in my family for many years.
Re: Need a good stereo install shop around Irvine, CA
Cool good job, sound like you have one tight install there. I agree its best to pay a little more to have it done right the first time. Sucks you had to come so far.
Re: Need a good stereo install shop around Irvine, CA
Here I am thinking of the south side of Irvine.
On the area you are looking are a few.
Harbor Blvd has a few up and down it.
I'll have to snag a phone book from work and look.
On Newport Blvd there is a shop called Mesa Perfomance you might try contacting them they always have good answers for me ,when needed.
BKH, you didn't buy a M5 from a shop off Superior Ave and 17th?
