Problem With Universal Transmitter

During the past few months, when pushing the buttons (or keys as the manual calls them) to open or close either of my garage doors (I only have two doors), the buttons don't seem to work. I can press one of them four times, then the fifth time it works, while the other works just fine. Then they both work fine for awhile.

Any one else? Cause? Fix?

Thank you!

Anita

Re: Problem With Universal Transmitter

Sounds like two potential issues. One could just be really strong local interference that throws it off during certain times of operation. The other could be related to code rotation if your garage door openers are of that type. I had trouble with my Genie Liftmaster with their Code whatever security. I was able to fix it by just reprograming the garage door opener to accept the remote signal from the universal transmitter

Re: Problem With Universal Transmitter

On various occasions in the last 18 months, I too have had problems with the UGDO not working with my garage door at home. In some cases, switching the ignition off seems to reset things and other times I have had to re-train the opener. Although I have had problems at home, the transmitter has no problem with the garage doors on the back of my office building. Go figure. I have the same unit in my X5 and have had no problems which also seems open the doors from a longer distance. My M5 did not come standard with the UGDO and I had it installed later by the dealer of course I cannot see how this should affect anything as the M5 is prewired for such a device.

Let us know what you find out.

Regards ,

Terk

Anita... maybe the mice have chewed your wiring! (Sorry..couldn't resist after seeing your post about a mouse nest in your airbox)

Re: Problem With Universal Transmitter

Anita,

whenever I have that problem it is because the battery is getting low on power in the remote transmitter in the car - unless yours is hard wired into the car, you might want to check your battery and swap it over.

Cheers!
Martin

Re: Problem With Universal Transmitter

MartinW...Anita is talking about the Universal garage door or HomeLink system that is installed in the car, not a remote transmitter that came with the garage door. I haven't had this problem so I can't offer any advice...sorry Anita.

Re: Problem With Universal Transmitter

Hey Anita,
I had this trouble a while back. I erased the memory in the UGDO (I can't remember how I did that, but I think it's in the manual) and then reprogrammed it to both openers. It works fine now. SOmetimes I have to push the button twice, but that doesn't seem to be a real problem...just operator error...
