          Post Tire Balancing

Is there anything special required with tire balancing?

My left rear had a nail removed and re-balanced twice. The first job was bad, the second balancing job was much better. However, I still have slight vibration above 65-70MPH.

The folks that removed the nail in the first place, had a heck of time removing the tire from the rim. In fact, they had the tire folded in in one section, which has me concerned that tire is now slightly goofed up.

          Thanks for your inputs.

          Ron,
if this vibration is different than the way it was "pre-nail", I think you should have it looked at by the dealer. I used to always get things like flats fixed by the local places- hey, I even know the guy- but now I do it all at the dealer. It costs more, but if they mess up, at least its covered. I kind of doubt they messed up your tire if its now working allright.

It also could be that right now youre looking for the vibration- and they balance wheels for certain speeds (usually its 55mph)- at other speeds you might feel a slight vibration- althogh Ive never had much of a problem with BMWs.

good luck- these kinds of issues are a big PITA (pain in the you know where)

          Thanks MEnthusiast!

Yes indeed, I plan to go for a drive where the freeway isn't so bumpy and see if it is me before calling/taking it to BMW.

          My M5 has Sport Pilots.

          Ron,
I've learnt from past experience that you have to take the car to specialty wheel/tyre stores to have anything done right on these low profile wheel/tyre combo.s. Your local Goodyear/Firestone shop will only ruin expensive wheels and will never get the balance correct. My concern would be that if the shop you used really had the tyre folded to a great extent that they may have damaged a belt in the tyre. Talk to someone in your local chapter of the BMW CCA and ask about the best place to take the car to for wheel/tyre problems, (most of them will all probably go to the same specialty shop).
