If your car is a US Spec car then you didn't pay anything for the extended leather interior (it's a no cost option here) and YES the dash top and door panel tops are vinyl. I've verified this with BMWNA and a visual check of the backside of the material (by removing the trim panel on the left side of the steering wheel and cutting out a tiny piece for closer inspection).

I don't consider this a bad thing since they only did the faux on the parts that get lots of exposure to the sun when the car is parked outside and the faux should last many years longer then well cared for leather in these particular locations.

Well, I'm glad to hear that my 2000 has leather. Sure, sure, you may have the 16:9 display screen, but at least MY car isn't covered in vinyl :p

As others have noted, the only US-spec cars that had a true leather dashboard were the '00 "All-Leather" versions (ironically, in MY00 they called the other option "Extended Leather" even 'though it was the lesser of the two...)
