Those are oxygen sensor bungs that I will not be using because they are too far away from the engine to provide an accurate lambda reading. We will be welding in bungs just after the headers for those.
So, you guys must have been jealous of the team effort put into Travis' car last weekend, that you had to have your own M5 work gathering... going to have to set up your game. Welding a few tubes together pales in comparison to the work we pushed out... hiha
Seriously though, I think the relationships built over the years in this hobby are bar none. This is a great example of such.
haha, love the exhaust heat shield being used as a face shield. definitely an OSHA approved worksite right there. Tim, the tan on one side of your face looks awesome
Love the photos!! Thanks for posting, Adam. Tim is a mad man!!! Looks like a lot of fun actually. I was planning on stopping by yesterday but I promised the wife we could go to look at plants all day after Saturday's event.
I was duped. Rob and Tim are such competent welders, I was assigned to the following tasks:
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com
Stand between Rob and his MIG and catch ALL stray splatter from reaching Peters car using your body (I later cheated and grabbed some heat shielding but not until my sweatshirt had been blessed with multiple burn holes.) <o></o> Stand between Rob, Tim and anyone else that uses the chop saw or the angle grinder and DO NOT let any sparks get near Peters car. <o></o> Go get us lunch. <o></o> Go to the hardware store and get more extension cords, cutoff wheels and get us safety glasses – but none for you! <o></o> Take Adam with you – his silence is eerie so it’s bothering us. <o></o> At least I got to go Peter’s sons baseball game – in the pouring rain. Actually, Sam is an awesome baseball player and I had a great time watching him play! It’s always more fun when you root for the winning team. <o></o> They even had Peter welding – a complete NOOB – rather than let me pick up a torch. And he did fantastic too! <o></o> It was the most fun I’ve had in a very, very long time. Thanks to Peter for letting me tag along and for his most generous hospitality. A great group of friends.
Rao,
Foot pedal or torch mounted pot on the TIG? Curious if it was a foot pedal how you control it laying on you back under the car? Someone else stepping on it when you tell them to? I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to do some TIG welding laying under the car with only a foot pedal.
I'm assuming the battery was disconnected, anything else to prep for welding on the chassis?
I've actually been trying to PM you about your dailey dry sump setup as I'm running a similar setup on my s62 e46 car but can't because I don't have enough posts. If you had a minute sometime I would love to chat, either PM or my email is bradperkins27@hotmail.com. It's mainly about vacuum regulation.
