DIY Section?

Hello Gustav...

As many E39 M5's are going out of warranty, would if be possible to create a section under the E39 M5 and E52 Z8 Discussion dedicated to listing/providing instructions for various repairs? My idea is that the posts would first be posted in the normal E39 M5 section but later moved into the "Repair" section after approval from the moderators (much like the "collection of best threads" section).

I know of many different sets of instructions posted by other that would be very useful to "newer" members. Here are just a few sets of instructions that I have saved up and I'm sure we could dig up the threads as well:
* Angel Eyes installation (for 2000 and 2001+ models)
* Brake Duct installation
* Brake pad replacement
* Front speak replacement
* Rear speaker replacement
* MAF sensor cleaning
* MAF sensor replacement
* Normal oil change
* HD sink drain installation

I would also imagine that as more people are doing maintenance themselves, this could prove to be a very useful (and easy to find) section.

Thoughts?

Johnny

Re: DIY Section?

Have you seen the "tips and tricks" section? There is some nice info there.

Yup... but what I was hoping for was a fixed list of repairs/fixes one can easily look up.

Re: DIY Section?

Problem is that if you tend to separate issues into sub-forums it won't get enough traffic there so people wil lstill just be in the main forum. Also, it has te be someone who is determining which posts are moved there and which won't. Tips Trick is similar. But far more easierr is maybe just to post the DIY storeis in the main forum and then people will search in DIY and they will find the relevant posts.

It is more geared to the e39 540... but for some of the material... it is relevant

some other DIY sites include www.e38.org ... provides GREAT write ups on a lot of upgrades, etc

Johnny, As an of a 2002 M5 this would be very useful. After reading a lot of posts regarding extended warranty I still don't have a good feeling if it is worth the extra $2000. For some reason with this car I am a little nervous about doing my own maintenance whereas every other car it was not a issue. A little confidence would be restored if I could read the "how to" before beginning. Best JV

Re: DIY Section?

I would do a Repair/Technical Discussion forum. I feel there is demand for it.
