Wheels replaced by BMW!!!!!!!!!

Great news. I was just approved to have 3 of my wheels replaced by BMW. My dealer is BMW of Sterling in Virginia. I had to wait for a BMW rep to look at the wheels and he approved the replacements. I feel extremely lucky. My 2000 M5 only had two months remaining on the factory warranty.

I can't help but think that my great relationship with Chris the service manager is mostly responsible for approval. He used to be my SA. However, he was recently promoted. He is a real M5/M3 lover who always provided the best service!

My wheels had somehow started to show black streaky marks that covered most of the three wheels that were damaged. For some reason my passenger side rear wheel was not effected.

Good luck to those who have similar problems.

Was there a lot of black showing? My front wheels have a nice luster but the rears look flat. I have put a few coats of wax on both front and rear but this has done nothing for the dull look of the silver on the rear. I have black showing in the spoke area of the rim and just assume that was the look of these rims. I bought the car used and have no comparison to what they looked like new.

Had the same problem and BMW replaced my two front wheels as well. This is apparently a known defect with certain batches of the OEM wheels and that's why they can replace them under warranty.

Re: Wheels replaced by BMW!!!!!!!!!

yes, congrats to you...i have a really good relationship with my dealer but on this issue (my wheels aren't terrible but a couple of them have had spots on them since basically the car was new) they haven't been very encouraging.

Re: Wheels replaced by BMW!!!!!!!!!

Can the Wheels be repainted?? My car is out of warranty and I too have black streaks visible. A BMW body shop said it is not a painted finish and therefore cannot be done. An alloy wheel refurbisher said they could be repainted.....any ideas?????

Re: Wheels replaced by BMW!!!!!!!!!

i would suggest doing a search in here on wheel replacement/issues...there's lots of data. in general the shadow finish is very difficult to impossible to refinish according to most. i'm just going to live with them i think.

Re: Wheels replaced by BMW!!!!!!!!!

It just continues to pi$$ me off that people all over the country have success getting this obvious manufacturer's defect remedied, while those of us in the South Central region continue to get stone-walled by this pompous jerk in Texas who mascarades as a Regional BMW rep.

Re: Wheels replaced by BMW!!!!!!!!!

FYI, Wheel Repair by Adam (in Dallas) is shipping me back one of my wheels that they have just refinished. I'll post results when it gets back (probably early next week).
