Re: OUT OF WARRANTY!

Take it to a good indy shop and have them do a going out of warranty check.

They will know what to look for. Oil leaks, computer codes, wheel bearings, etc.

Re: OUT OF WARRANTY!

Good idea, is it worth renewing? I mean these cars hold up so well, is it worth springing the extra two thousand or so?? Haha, sell it quickly! I feel like I just got it, it would be a sin to sell such a beautiful car in such beautiful condition!

How old is it? whats the mileage? has it had any warranty/repair work done?

These will form the basis of whether it is worth renewing it...

Another way to look at it is - $2K to renew... means peace of mind/worry-free motoring for at least another year. You love the car, its a beauty... whats your love worth...?

Mind you $2K - does seem a little on the high side.. here in the UK it is £640 /yr at BMW... and that is like $1200 ...

Re: OUT OF WARRANTY!

It is a 2000 with 46k on it. It has had mainteneance done on it more than warranty, I believe the Vanos were replaced once, but nothing too major. It hasn't acted up or nothing, but am just worried that the day after warranty it'll blow or something!

Hmmm... if you sell this and buy A N Other car, what would you buy and enjoy as much? and cost of change will be in excess of the warranty cost, + the hassle of changing etc... and what if the next car plays up straight away...

Basically, my advise, fork out for the warranty, and continue to enjoy the everybody dreams of owning and driving! There are people out there imitating the car you own!

Thats IMHO...

Re: OUT OF WARRANTY!

Keep the car.
I am out of warranty, and the things that go wrong are MAFS, VANOS solenoid,
CAM Position sensors, O2 sensors, fan blower (final stage resistor), and some say wheel bearings. All the major stuff like engine/trans/rear end and car integrity are rock solid. If u can get a good warranty, get it. Otherwise, keep the car and do your own wrenching. I replaced my own MAFS for $500 and 20 minutes labor. Get a Peake tool to read the codes, and use this forum. Folks here are great, and know their stuff.
Joe

Re: OUT OF WARRANTY!

I think you should get the extended warranty - in the UK, it is around $1300 per annum. If something big occurs - it may be more costly than the $1300?
All the best.
