I can't see this being the case. Way to similar to the F10. Every generation has looked very different from the last. This just looks like an M3/4 bumper slapped on there, just another bad attempt at auto journalism.
I have never understood the point of the renderings. They are usually nowhere near close to right since typically designers don't start with the outgoing car as the basis for the newer model.
Just saw that too...much better than the previous "render" which just tacked on the F8X front spoiler to the F10 body. I'm sure it will look pretty good when it arrives, optional four-wheel drive and all...and no manual. But really, I suppose it will be too big for one. Are you thinking of buying one?
I dunno - give them 5 years and Prices could be 1/3 of original or less. But these cars are so complex do you really want to deal with one out of warranty?
I don't think the new M5 will have the chassis code as G30. It will be F90.
First we had various number of models (eg, 3/4 series, 1/2 series) which basically share the same chassis but bear different chassis code (eg. F30 and F80, G30 and now F90 for M5).
Why? For the same reason we can ski and surf in the same day. They can test in every micro-climate imaginable.
The Sierra Nevada Mountains and Death Valley are separated by a single valley -- and can be bisected by desolate highways a.k.a. The Desert Autobahn.
My old home state of Colorado has the higher altitude, but less differential from -282 ft below sea level (in Death Valley ) to Tioga Pass (9,945') in the Sierra.
I don't know if it is just me but with the very similar design concept of the front headlights/kidney grills, I am beginning to have a hard time differentiating the current sedan models between the 3, 5 and 7 series other than their obvious overall size differences. When the current 3-series (F30) size is approaching the 5-series (F10), now I almost always have to look the rear trunk badge to know which model it is. I suspect in a few short years from now, all the BMW sedans will look almost indistinguishable from front to tail ! This is not like the old days when you can easily tell the E34/E39 from the E36/E46.
Well, not really. To me I can still make out which one is the 3 series, 5 series, and the 7 series. That's including all the new models from F30 to G11 to the latest G30.
The one car that currently fools me is the new E-class from Mercedes Benz. It's fair to say the new E-class resembles almost 98% of the new C-class. The front end is like exactly the same between the two. The taillights are the same too but one appears slightly larger than the other.
