While looking through this months Car & Driver magazine, I saw an ad for Borla Exhausts. Out of curiosity, I went to their website and found that they make a cat-back exhaust system for the M5. The price for the whole system is only $1299.
Anyone on this board have any experience with Borla exhausts? How is the quality and fit & finish of the product? How do their exhausts sound? I called them and they claim that the weight of the entire system was approximately 80lbs. I ordered a brochure to see what it looks like and if there are any other info pertaining to the system.
The price seems like it would be great for anyone on a budget. A group buy might even lower that a little. Any comments?
I had a Borla system on my 1986 Ferrari 328 GTS. At the time I didn't want to spend the $2500.00 for a TubiStyle. It sounded good and looked stock. I was pleased.
I've had a Borla system on my 97 Ford F150 Supercab 4*4 for three years - it still looks great and sounds nice. Installation was a breeze and the quality was excellent.
The only thing you need to find out is what the complete exhaust kit for the M5 consists of. Most of the time, for that price, they don't even replace the resonator in the middle.
I believe that Borla has produced nice system for the Domestic market. I'm not sure exactly if that stands true on the European market, especially on the M5.

I personally think that Borla as a company is very reputable, and when I had my 90 Mustang GT, I had Borla exhaust. After 6 months I decided to change to Flowmaster because I liked the sound better, but Borla is definitely less expensive than other exhaust stystems. You wont go wrong with Borla.Good luck!!!!!!
When I spoke to a technician at Borla, he said that the system did have 2 resonators similar to the Tubi and the stock system. What didn't make sense, was that on their web site, they showed a single pipe on each side splitting into two tips. But the tech stated that there were four muffler cans similar to the stock set up if I understood him correctly.
I guess the best thing is to wait for the brochure to arrive unless someone that lives closeby can visit them and confirm the details of the system.
The best way is to ask them to send you some photos of the actual products completely. I'm pretty sure they have a lot of them in their file.
You will notice it immediately from the pictures.
If, indeed the system comes with 4 mufflers as the stock ones than I don't think you will get the type of sound you are expecting out of it. Who knows, I could be wrong....
Please let me know once you got the photos.
