Tire pressure sensor on aftermarket wheels?

Thinking of getting 19" aftermarket wheels
but since the M5/M3 have tire pressure sensors. What would happend? do I have to disengage it? Or there's aftermarket tire pressure sensor available to fit on 19" aftermarket wheels? I went to discount tires and they said it would mess up the computers
but I seen some of the members on this board with nice 19" wheels on their beast. any advice? thanks

The U.S. M5s don't have sensors in the wheels. The system works by determining if a wheel is rotating at a speed different from the other 3. That's why you have to reset the system whenever you change the air pressure in your tires. There's a thread on this if you do a search on this board.

I have my 19" on for almost two weeks (with almost 1,000 miles), I put 40 psi for front tires (245/35/19) and 44 psi for rear ones (275/30/19). Please make sure that you maintain the air pressure on all tires to prevent wheel damage.

There have been a couple times where the comp. indicated "tire defect" but after checking the tire pressure immediately on both times, everything is fine. After you turn off the engine and turn it back on, the message is gone.

Sometimes, the dealer like to blow things out of the proportion but don't be alarmed by it. Not gonna mess anything up, if you use the correct/proper size tires for your wheels.

One thing important is to complete a four-wheel alignment at your earliest convenience after replacing the wheels and tires.

Please feel free to e-mail me at stallionconcepts@aol.com for any further question you may have.

Stallion M5, did you remember to reset your tire pressure calibration after you put the new wheels on? (It's that button on the dash to the right of the steering wheel. Follow the instructions in the owners manual, and be sure to buckle up your seatbelt first, or your display will only say "fasten seatbelt".) If you didn't, that may be why you're getting the "tire defect" warning.

Hey, that's a good one.... I didn't know that. I hate to read and since I bought the car from out of state, no one explained things to me about the features and steps need to be done on certain circumstances.

Thank you for the info I'll do that right away and see how it goes. Now I know what that button is for
