Re: Anyone else here using Mobil 1 Motorsport 15W-50 oil (UK members in particular)?

not answering your question Daniel, but what is the oil protocol in the EU for our cars. do they have later M5s using 5/30 or is that a bmwna deal only?

As for the mobil 1, does it list approval by bmw as one of their "special oils", how about porsche approval? I'd bet it's fine, at least for warm weather.
thanks,
Mike

Re: Anyone else here using Mobil 1 Motorsport 15W-50 oil (UK members in particular)?

Hi Daniel,

I tend to stick to the recommended stuff, Castrol TWS 10-60 oil especially as my car is one of the older variants (MY99). From my talks with Birds(UK) tend to stick to the manufacturer recommendations too.

I wonder what BMW recommend for the new E60 V10 M5 ?

Cheers

Tin

My car is an early 2000 build and I've always stuck with the 10/60.

Re: Anyone else here using Mobil 1 Motorsport 15W-50 oil (UK members in particular)?

Hi,
I was using 15/50 mobil motorsport until march of this year when my dealer recommended 10/60 castrol.
I find that i am having to top up less since the changeover but the vanos is louder on tickover (car is 1999 with 54k)

Regards...Aidan

Re: Anyone else here using Mobil 1 Motorsport 15W-50 oil (UK members in particular)?

The motorsports 15/50 is all we run in the engines at work.
we get barrels or 5 gal buckets full.
I haven't had much street use yet as I was just given four 5 gal buckets to use. In or work engines they seal pretty quick after break in on the dyno.
And after a long run with temps as high as 93c we only use less then 1.5 liters after a hard 6 hour run.
It doesn't give you much street info but I can tell you when these engines get torn down they look great and it doesn't stink like normal oil(burnt).

Re: Anyone else here using Mobil 1 Motorsport 15W-50 oil (UK members in particular)?

Hi

My brother in law works as a technician at Porsche UK and all the techies are from either BMW, Lexus, Merc etc.

His mate who he works with came from BMW and he has said to me that it is fine to run the M5 on Mobil 1, he even said some dealers use it instead of Castrol.....

I have been running mine on Mobil and it is fine, also it is readily avaliable at most the service stations so when the obligitory top up is needed at least you are always using the same oils.

Oh yeah Beastpower i read about your car in BMW magazine it sounds awsome...

Hope this helps anyway

Si

Daniel, mine's a 2002, and I have always used TWS 10W60 and haven't yet met a dealer who recommends otherwise......
