There are car covers that are made specifically for the M5. They are anywhere from $75 (indoor use, dust) to $200 (snow and hard rain)depending on manufactorer, color and materials. I purchased from Blue Sky. They advertise in the back of all of the car magazines.
I agree with the post about a low profile. Under the cover it should look like any other 5 series if you do not advertise what is there.
Blue Sky had a very nice web site that descibes all of the various grades of covers and what may or may not fit your needs. I believe the cover I purchased was $170. Not the most expensive, but not the least.
If your in Southern California your not interested in rain protection because it never rains here, just sun protection.
