Re: TECH: Replacing intake Camshaft Position Sensor...

I just removed the intake sensor on bank 2, and would like to show my appreciation to you guys by showing you how i removed it.

I cut off the end of a 5mm socket and epoxyed it to a mini ratchet. Once I got it loose w/ a long 5mm allen, i got the ratchet action going...this is probably the only way to get this bolt out.

Re: TECH: Replacing intake Camshaft Position Sensor...

I removed my intake and exhaust CPS on bank 2. I did the intake from under the car, and it was fairly easy w/ this tool I made, about 15 mintues and it was done, just had to remove the belly pan (very easy) and the black bracket being held in by 2 10mm bolts. All you need there is a racheting straight wrench.

Here's my shot from under the car on my back.

My engine management warning light just popped on tonight. I recalled the engine making some sort of noticeable rattling noise upon firing up, and the car is definitely sounding much deeper upon acceleration in the low revs.

This thread is well documented, thanks for posting it. But I wanted to ask: Is it suggested to replace all of them on one go?

Thanks!!

THANK YOU JOHNNY!

Hi Johnny,

Many thanks for an excellent thread. Although it's annoying to see some other members hijacking the thread with some unwanted opinions about one of BMW's masterpieces, I nevertheless appreciate the sharing of your technical skills. Please post a similar write-up for the replacement of the other CPS's, if you can, I think all of us without warranties who knows how to use our hands does find it useful.

Best regards, Rudi

amrit, thanks! A quick plug-in with the reader suggest my exhaust CPS in the right bank (cyl 5-8) has gone bad. According to boardmember Fart, the above instructions are for the exhaust CPS instead of the intake?

Thanks!

Ok, to clear things up (I just did this two days ago). There are a total of four CPS's on the S62. These instructions at the top of the page are indeed for the exhaust CPS. The intake CPS has the electrical plug (that goes to the DME) going straight up out of the block, not at a 90 degree angle like the CPS pictured (the exhaust). I was going to post a TECH on the intake but my camera battery was out.
