Introduction, few questions and woohoo!!!

Hello guys, My name is Pritesh Pastakia. Im based in Wembley in North London and have been an m5 owner for about a month, maybe less

I drove and still own a corrado G60 that has since been retired with lots of mods on it, most by AMd (didnt realise they did BMW now, they used to be Porsche, VW and Audi only!!!!). I was part of the massive Corrado Club GB and a prominent member of the web group until work commitments mean i dont spend as much time on the Net!

I did search the Net before buyin the M5 for user groups but never found this place so the info i got was very limited but i am still chuffed to bits with the car i got. Thanks to Ashok for spottin my car and leaving a nifty card on the windscreen. v63 ***

I've searched around the posts for a few hours and i realise this point has come up but could someone just confirm (yes or no, i dont want to piss anyone off by bringing up a point you have discussed before!) but to get rid of the diesel noise on idle, both Vanos banks (?!) need to be replaced?? Is this something the dealer will do under warranty?? Can they refuse?? Is there someone i can call to ask like BMW customer care etc??

I dont need anything technical please, just advice on what to do next cos i really hate that noise!

Thanks in advance and i hope to see most of you soon.

Prit

Re: Introduction, few questions and woohoo!!!

Welcome aboard Prit - good to see that I've "captured" another owner!

Do a search under "vanos" and you'll find a lot of info on the subject. If it's a clattering noise coming from the engine, it's probably the vanos. The previous owner(s) should have fixed this as it was indeed a warranty item. You can ask your dealer to do a search using the VIN number for all warranty work done on the car.

We are having a meet at AMD on August 7th - hope to see you there

Welcome aboard! If it is loud ticking and making a diesel sound, as everyone else has said that is VANOS, and it should be replaced under warranty. Best advice has been given; do a search and see the stories of others.
Enjoy the beast and the board!

Re: Introduction, few questions and woohoo!!!

Spoke to the service department at my dealer who said that he has come across this quite a bit and that replacing the vanos doesnt help. As ive only just got the car it is under warranty but can i force them to do the work??

I called bmw customer care who said that there isnt any outstanding recalls on the car but didnt ask them what warranty work had been done on the car?? Thats my next job tomorrow.

I will definately see you all up at AMd on the 7th. Are the london boys meetin up beforehand to do a drive up together?? This was always a laff in the corrado group, havin a little train of corrados on the motorway...imagine an m5 train....Orient express, bring it on baby!

Cheers
