95 or 98 oct fuel question
What should I use, the 98 is somewhat more expensive.

Will it make any difference in performance. What about oil consumption.

If you drive moderately, you can use the lower octane. However, very few Beast owners don't "get on it" occasionally, so you generally want the higher octane if you want maximum performance or do a lot of full throttle runs. I don't think octane affects oil consumption, although full throttle runs will!!

Stick with 98 Octane (Super Unleaded) for best performance. BMW even recommend this in the manual. The engine management will compensate if you use lower octane fuel but you will not get the best performance & fuel economy.

For our North American members, please note that European Octane ratings, just like HP, are calculated using a slightly different formula (DIN) so our Octane ratings do not match yours.

Yes, stick with 98...as it says in the manual " lower octane petrols can be used but M5 will loose some performance"

i only ever used the 95 octane fuel once and felt that the engine sounded less smooth so i stick with the 98 stuff. (could all be in my mind though!)
