Should I replace the Rogue Octane or the whole car?

Guys,

After all the SS/WSR talk and the problems with mine (continuous SES light, extreme difficulty shifting, NOISE, etc.) and the **** squeaking clutch that feels like I am driving a road grader (horrible springy/crunchy feel and sound but functions fine). I am either going to do a NEW clutch and the new UUC Evo and selector rod or ditch the car altogether for an M3. I am that upset about it. I feel like I have to fight the clutch and fight the shifter at the same time they fight me! It's tiring to say the least, around town.

My 540 sport has a warranty thru 90K (71K currently) and I've put a large chunk of change into this car (everything short of 3.45 LSD diff & S/C) so I am not eager to take a bath on it.

What would you guys do? I love the power but its getting to be a real whipping to drive this E39........

**** that sucks. Didn't you just put some 19" BBS LM's on it too? I just drove an smg m3 recently and it has me seriously considerig switching also. If I could only afford the beast.

I would isolate the problem. The cheapest way to go is to put the stock shifter back in and see what happens. If the shifter is easier (although sloppier) then I would address the clutch. If not, you may have a linkage problem or something else is out of adjustment. I find the stock clutch relatively easy to engage and my SS (Rogue) is direct and slightly notchy. I find the higher rpm I shift at, the smoother the shifting is. If you are going to keep the car I would give serious consideration to the UCC ($$$) clutch as well as Rob's UCC newest SS as he can sort through any problems. He has been great at customer service in the past. YMMV
Regards,
Jerry

Re: Should I replace the Rogue Octane or the whole car?

Hummm...I used to have a Rogue Octane in my beast with the weighted selector rod. I liked it a lot but swapped it for the RMS shifter which was height adjustable. Both shifters were further improved by the addition of Rogue Engineering Performance Transmission Mounts and Royal Purple tranny fluid.

Re: Should I replace the Rogue Octane or the whole car?

I have my eye on a 2001 M3, but even the UUC clutch, flywheel, and Evo 3 are still half as much money as the difference in price between the 2 cars. Like someone said, will I keep it. That's what I need to decide.

Re: Should I replace the Rogue Octane or the whole car?

ill trade you my 03 SMG M3 Cab for your m5. I could always use another..and since your going to get rid of it for some tranny problems, you wont have to deal with those with the SMG
