1st mod and did not even know it!

Found out that my used M5 has Dinan software chip. No wonder I got it up to almost 140 the other day. I assume stock limits are 120-130mph? Correct me if wrong.

Since I have not really felt the true stock M5, was wondering if any of you guys w/ Dinan software actually noticed any "noticeable" gains after installng the chip on their stocker; or is it just a fluke besides removing rev limit?

Ltrz,
Woogie.

Re: 1st mod and did not even know it!

(Correct me if I'm wrong - it happens occasionally!)The Dinan chip does little more than remove the top limiter and (I believe) raise the rev limiter. CHeck out www.powerchipgroup.com if you want software that will improve your driving experience by remapping the ECU.

Re: 1st mod and did not even know it!

What you get with the Dinan software is:-

1) the accelerator becomes more responsive (like using the sport button when its stock. Use the sport button now and it becomes even more responsive)

2) removes the topspeed limiter,
3) it bumps the rpm redline from 7000 to 7200

Keep in mind as well that even though your speedo might have registered 140 mph (and that the actual limit is 155mph), BMW's speedos tend to read slightly higher than the actual speed (up to 10%), so worst case, you may have to take the car up to 165-170 (registered to find out if you REALLY don't have a speed limiter.

Have fun, drive safely. Kevin

Re: 1st mod and did not even know it!

I have to agree with the stage 1 comment however, it's not designed to do anything other than improve throttle response. Stage 1 is a software program that is designed for a car with no other modifications complete. Thus there are really no real HP gains to be had from "remapping" the EMS. Not until you start getting into the intake and exhaust side of the engine i.e. Cold Air, velocity staks and throttle bodies and headers/exhaust does the software "remapping" really make a difference. You have to remember that Dinan worked their modifications to have a cumulative effect on the car. This is why there are numerous other companies that offer products that claim HP increase on a per unit (or item ) basis greater than Dinan. However the cumulative and I must add balaced effect is tremedndous. The problem as you rightly mentioned though is price. Dinan is expensive.

I stongly encourange the individual who is not planning to do a system approach i.e. all the components needed for a particular stage of Dinan software thus to go elsewhere. But if your in it for the long term and continue to make modifications to your car the cumulative effects of the Diinan process are hard to beat. 470HP rocket. I don't know anyone who has done other mods that exceed that HP rating to date.
