Anyone using the BMC CDA intake?

BMC has their "carbon dynamic airbox(s)" which replace the stock airboxes on the M5. I've seen ads for them in Bimmer magazine, and was curious if anyone has tried them.

They have a kit for the M5 that includes 2 airboxes and ducting. Haven't seen any dyno numbers yet (for an M5) but they do show gains on M3s.

That's interesting, it looks like they actually move the mafs further from the plenum. I'd think the spacer would go between the mafs and the airbox.

I saw these in an add about a month ago and was curious about them as well. Sure would like to hear from someone who has them to see if they did anything for them.

I'm tempted, they're cheap enough. I found them at an internet store for something like $500. It also seems like it'd be easy to integrate them into a CAI... (despite my recent SES escapade, i haven't learned to stop messing with things...)

Way to go Mike! That's the spirit! That's what I did a few years ago when I jumped in and ordered the AA CAI kit because no one knew much about it! I can't wait to hear what you think...if they work, I can get rid of my K&N's!

The CAI, really it was just ducting to the stock airboxes, is what was causing my ses light in the first place. The MAFS are fine, and were replaced about 8 mos ago. The BMC filters, from all that i've read, are excellent filters from a flow and filtration standpoint. They are supposedly far superior to k&n from a filtration point of view. If i get ses lights, i can always take them off!
I think my ses stemmed from my not well enough designed air intake that i cobbled together. I was either getting turbulent flow at the mafs, or unequal flow to the left vs right. I've already had the powerchip set up for a CAI, so i should be ok from a software point of view.

I received the cda's today, and put them on the car tonight. I haven't ran the ducts to the foglamp area yet, as i didn't have enough time to really work on it. I was a little disappointed in that the "M5 kit" essentially is 2 generic cda's, about 2 ft of ducting and a plain metal bracket. You don't get custom for $500 i suppose! It all fit in well enough with a little forcing I checked for an ses light before doing the install this time and all was clean! The ducts are down in the front bumper area, i've trimmed the plastic on the foglight bezel, so outside air is getting up into that area. A quick run after the install felt pretty good. A bit more intake sound, and the car felt strong. I didn't drive much at all (just about 2 miles), and it was cool outside so we'll see how it goes over time, especially after i get the ducting in place. The airboxes were cool to the touch when I got home, so cool air is getting in there, and they look nice!
