Post Waiting for a MY2002

I have put my deposit down, but I told my dealer I want to get an allocation after the August factory break, so it will be a MY2002. Based on previous years, does anyone have an idea when dealers will be getting their allocations for September? Any idea when changes such as available options, if any, for MY2002 will be announced? Thanks!

Let's see now. Last year around July word started leaking out about the changes. There are a couple of people on this board with excellent sources of information from inside BMW. I'll let them chime in.

As far as when you'll see your car, check-out the chart below. There are virtually no cars delivered in September. The few cars you see there are probably stragglers from the July production.

Therefore best case scenario is sometime in October or early November.

What color did you get?

Regards,

Max

My guess is that you would get a 2002 in October as well. I have a 2001 that was built in the second week of September and it arrived stateside the third week of October.

Yes I figured it would be an Oct or Nov delivery. However, I was wondering more about when the build allocations for Sept were handed out to dealers (so I know when to really start bugging him . I figure that will be at least by August, but I wondered if anyone had a more accurate idea.

As for color, I'm leaning toward Titanium w Black All Leather (though I do wish I could get the sunshade since the leather is black).

My dealer called me the first week in September 2000 to meet and select options. My car arrived the first week in November. I do not know whether I got the dealer's first 2001 allocation, but I believe it was one of the first 3 or so. Hope this is helpful.

Cliff, The paperwork I have says the order was at status code 037 - OREDER IS AT BMW NA. This was dated August of 2000. I don't really remember the dealer telling me too much prior to that regarding when they actually got the allocation for my build. It seemed to me that they didn't have much lead time either, probably due to the production cutover. One thing you'll want to check with them on is whether they have anyone on their list ahead of you waiting for a potential 2001. They may give the early 2002's to someone that didn't get an allocation before the model year ran out. That could push things back for you. I hope not!

As for the sunshade with the all leather option, I'm with you there. I got Caramel which only comes in the all leather and I wanted the sunshade too. Not nearly enough to go for the sport interior though.

Good luck!

John

Sounds like I should start bugging my dealer in earnest sometime in July . He is juggling order from people who want the car asap and those, like me, who would wait a little longer to get the next model year.

The thing about the sunshade that bugs me is that the problem is with the side-shades--they don't work with the leather on the doors. The rear shade should not be a problem, yet it the US it's not possible to order the rear shade without the side shades. Sigh.
