Post FoneSynch w/CPT8000

Has anyone been able to get a CPT8000 to synch under FoneSynch? (Greg??) I just called OpenWave (FoneSynch) and they said that there isn't compatibility with the specific Motorola model that the CPT8000 is OEMed from (TDMA ATTWS phone is the P8197) - I also asked if they had the part number to the cable in the event that I wanted to try it out just in case.

Any help would be appreciated - thanks Jim

My understanding is that you can sync a CDMA phone but not a TDMA. I hope I'm wrong, but recently got and dropped a CDMA Timeport which came with syncing software, and picked up a TDMA Timeport which cannot be synched. Neither was through BMW.

Motorola's synch kit uses "TrueSync", which I think is a competitor to FoneSynch.

BMW does sell a TrueSync kit for the CPT8000, but I don't know if it is specific to CDMA, TDMA, etc.

Folks, you are confusing 2 functions.

- There's a sync function that you buy from Motorola (Cable and sw). It allows you to upload you Outlook (other PIMs?) contact info to the phone, and it works with CDMA phones only

- There's a web function (via Verizon) where you could DL their sw and it will take your Outlook contact info and upload it into your online address book (at thier MyVerizon portal). You can access this address book via the min browser. Again, available only on CDMA phones..

The TDMA version seems like an old startac with new plastic... And it doesn't have the cool tri color display of the CDMA phone..

Message from OpenWave

I sent the following message last week to OpenWave, the marketers of the FoneSync system.
Quote:
I recently purchased a Motorola Timeport phone that is branded by BMW for use in their cars. The BMW version of the Timeport is called the CPT 8000. I have a TDMA version (SBC wireless) model no. 84110136306. It also comes in a CDMA version.
...
I cannot determine from the list of phones on your website whether the BMW CPT 8000 phone (TDMA or CDMA) correlates to any of the listed Motorola StarTac or TimePort phones that are available in the public market.

Thanks very much for any assistance.
I got the following message this morning from OpenWave:
Quote:
Dear Sir,

We currently do not offer connectivity for the CPT 8000. We are constantly updating our list of supported phones. Keep posted to our website www.fonesync.com for updated lists of our supported phones.

Thanks,
Openwave
Does anyone on the message board currently use (and would you recommend) a software application to synchronize the phone list in your personal information manager (PIM) with the TDMA version of the CPT8000?

I've asked BMW the same question and will post the reply.

Thanks.

I don't bother to sync to the phone's local database 'cuz it doesn't hold enough numbers and it is never convenient. Instead, I sync my PC database (I actually use the Palm sw but you can do this w/ Outlook too) to Yahoo. Then I just use the minibrowser to go to Yahoo's address book, calendar and email from the phone. I can get to all of my roughly 1000 contacts, with multiple numbers for each.

Sorry I can't help, though - I've been out of Openwave for over a year now.

Next Generation Telematics

Thanks Greg. I gather that you're using the CDMA version of the CPT 8000.

Cingular here uses the TDMA, so I'm SOL on your technique. An IR port on the CPT 8000 would have been real nice, then I could just beam the information from the Palm or the PC.

If BMW takes the advice we've given on telematics for the next generation BMWs (e.g., ability to receive e-mail), the car's phone system would be able to go on-line and sync with your choice of Internet personal phone data bases.
