Guys,
I'm sure many of you may have already heard this in the news on ESPN, or on Speedvision?
Last weekend was to be the first ever CART race at the Texas Motor Speedway in Dallas. Just minutes before the scheduled start of the race, officials cancelled the entire event. It seems that during qualification runs, many of the drivers had experienced dizziness and some almost blacked out. TMS is known for its extremely steep banks and is a very fast track because of this. Reports are that during qualification rounds, some drivers were hitting over 235 MPH and the constant G forces were making them dizzy. Officials then made a decision to force a reduction in boost pressures on the turbos to slow the cars down, however this did not slow them enough to make them safe.
Needless to say, local TMS officials were not very happy since they already had a packed crowd there to witness the first CART race at this track - ever. Additionally, TMS had paid a $2M fee to get the event sanctioned. As well, they had done some expensive repairs and/or changes to the facility as instructed by CART officials to make it ready for this type of race.
I suppose TMS will never have CART again in the future, unless they somehow make the cars alot slower?...
