Cyclical "clicking" on hard right-hand turns (on track)?

Has anyone else experienced this noise? It seems to be coming from the console area, but could actually be from anywhere. I don't hear it much on left hand corners, only on right corners. Could it be the brakes chattering? Or something else? I keep forgetting to pay more attention to it, and I have no clue what it could be. It doesn't seem to change based on speed, and occurs when I am taking a hard right corner (street tires squealing loudly).

Re: Cyclical "clicking" on hard right-hand turns (on track)?

brian, did you ever find out a cause to this. My M5 does the exact same thing, right turns on the track, mostly noticable when i'm going along a wall for a hairpin etc. I'm thinking either a brake splash shield may be flexing and rubbing something or perhaps a wheel bearing getting old (darn clockwise roadcourses).

Mike

The noise might be in the front flex joint of the driveshaft.

Had that on my wife's old X5... in her case it was due to a bad control arm.

When I saw the subject of this thread, I thought it was in reference to driving instructors. When I go for track days and we sit in class, they always talk about clicking - when you are going into a turn, go click, click, click when turning the wheel, don't just yank down on the steering wheel. Smooth input.

Are you sure you aren't clicking subconciously when turning or have an instructor sitting in the passenger seat? - check for the instructor first, they tend to make those noises a lot (along with others and sometimes leave finger sized dents in the dash) - once you find and remove the instructor you will find that you can handle the car better (lighter load) and there will be a lot less noise!

Re: Cyclical "clicking" on hard right-hand turns (on track)?

It may be something very simple......

I had this last summer and finally tracked it down to a small stone caught between the disc shield and caliper. It only clicked when turning under load, never when in a straight line.
Drove me absolutely nuts for a couple of weeks, but it was simple in the end!
Best of luck Brian

don't think that's it, i've done the brakes a couple of times and it still occurs... even installed a big brake kit, didn't leave any rocks behind!

Mine turned out to be periodic contact between the metal OEM dust shield and the StopTech rotor. Removed heat shield, problem solved.
