4 mufflers?

Since this is my first M5 and I have not looked under any others, I was wondering something. Does the stock M5 exhaust have 2 muffler cans on each side held together with some straps welded on to them?

Thanks in advance

That's one way of describing it. That's what mine looked like when I took them off.

BTW, is there any alternative application for these cans? They are sitting on my garage floor occupying space. I suppose it would be cool to mount them on the wall, and that's what I'll do if nobody else has any chance of using them.

Thanks,
David

Re: 4 mufflers?

David,

You must have custom order you car in Electric Red?

I looked at your site, and I noticed you're planning on going to TechFest. I'm going to be up there for the whole event. So far, not too much interest on the board here from fellow M5er's for TechFest. I hope some of the "old guard" from NCC circa 1980's are on hand -- I used to have a lot of fun at Summit Point with the NCC group back then when I lived in Manassas.

Re: 4 mufflers?

Yeah, I ordered that color. So far no tickets! :-)

Yes, I'm definitely planning on attending on Saturday. Work precludes attending on the other days. We should find a way to hook up.

I'm still in the early formative stages of my local web site development. But as they say - build it and they will come....

Any pictures?

Re TechFest...I'll be mostly in the advanced sections, but I also plan to see Ray Korman talk on retorations of older M cars too..think that is in the intermediate section. I haven't gotten a schedule of the seminars from them yet -- guess that will be something to work out once we get there.

Let's see if this works. A pic of my car shortly after bringing it home:

Re: 4 mufflers?

Wow, that is beautiful! Thanks for the picture. Hopefully Saturday at TechFest we can cross paths as I would love to see it in person

Such a beautiful car deserves to be posted, not just linked.

"Is it the sounds that make a BMW a BMW? A BMW is designed to be heard, felt, experienced. So our engines sing. Our steering talks back. And we insist on offering manual transmissions in nearly all our models for drivers who crave them. The result is an almost telepathic oneness with the car. Just as surely as you can hear a BMW, a BMW hears you."

Yes, Gustav, Individual ordered. I wanted a red car, but wanted it to be "redder" than Imola Red. So I found this color in the color charts.

I wonder, though, if this color was available "stock" in 2000? I have a poster from that year introducing the E39 M5 and it appears to be this shade of red. But, as you're aware, it's sometimes hard to translate a picture into real life.

Has been very enjoyable so far. Almost 3000 miles.

P.S. Thanks for providing this forum. It has been more than invaluable in my decision making process buying the car.

P.P.S. Thanks also to Need4Spd for posting the picture. I wasn't sure how to do that.

David
