Leather on verge of cracking - next steps?

I just finished up cleaning the backseat of my 01 M5 (black interior) using the leatherique products and noticed a small section of the seat bottom that appears to be cracking , almost like there are creases in it but it will soon crack. The rest of the back seat as well as the front seats are in real good condition. My question is 2 fold. First, should I be very concerned (which I am) and secondly what are my next steps to fix or at least stop it from getting worse? Is this something the dealer would address or am I better off going to a specialty shop?

Thanks.

Re: Leather on verge of cracking - next steps?

Are you sure it is cracking... can you feel a split in the leather, or does it just look like it is cracking? It seems unlikely that such a new car would have actual cracking in the leather unless it was treated very poorly.

When I got my M5 the side bolster next to the driver's door was very worn, lots of white creases in the black leather. I got it professionally dyed (about $150), and ever since it has looked brand new. You could look at it all day and not know it was ever damaged.

Hope this helps.

John

Re: Leather on verge of cracking - next steps?

I had some leather cracking a bit in the driver seat...if you have any warranty left, they can try and fix it up at the dealership...i mean, whatever they did, it made any improvement. they claim its not covered under warranty, but a lot of times they will fix stuff like that.
