Post Had the M5 on a road racing track

What a blast!!!! Last Thursday and Friday I had the M5 at Pocono Raceway’s infield road course (1.35miles) for Driving Dynamics performance driving school course which is really a good excuse for being able to put your car on a road course and see how it stacks up to other cars. The other cars (18 in total) included an Acura NSX, a few E36 M3’s, another M5, Audi S4 and a Lambourghini Diablo that had 800 miles, stalled on the pit road and never started again (it was flat bedded out). We did about 40 miles of track work the first day and over 100 miles the second day. IMHO the M5 was the cream of the crop and I was amazed that a 4 door sedan was able to out run all the other cars consistently. We were only allowed passing on the straights so it was safe with no incidents.

If you ever wanted to really see what the M5 can do, you’ve got to try something like this. All the high speed runs on the public highway are crap compared to putting the car through its paces on a racing road course.

What course were you taking? Sounded like a lot of fun _ I like the idea of using your own car rather than a course car.

      I agree Doug,

After a track event, you will never look at your car the same way again. The only risk I see is, once you've got the bug watch out. You'll want to go again & again. Then you'll buy a track car, then club racing. Your family will never see you again

I'll never forget my first track experience at Bridgehamton NY in a 1985 535i (precursor to the beast).

I'm looking forward to the next one at O'fest.

      Anyone of you attending?

It was Driving Dynamic's Performance Driving course at Pocono Raceway's road course (888-363-7483). The next time they plan on running the course is Sept. 27-28. The course costs $675. quite a bargain. I'm trying to convince them to run an intermediate course to fine tune items such as heel & toe and passing and downshifting. In addition after you do the course I just did, you can come to the second day of the other courses and run your car on the track.

Check it out. It was great.
