Sorry for the old thread revival. If I execute the sequence in post #1, my display goes from SIA XXXX to END SIA immediately. I do not see the RESET indicator. What am I doing wrong? Could it be due to the latest DME recall done on my car in October 2007?
I did this easily on my E46/M3. What's different on my newly acquired 2002 E39/M5?
I'm having the exact same problem on a 2002. I'm turning the key just enough for the light to come on (and then the radio comes on) but not enough for the click. I get the SIA XXXX message, release the button and press it again and then get END SIA.
Also I have the peak tool and it isn't reseting the light either for oil or inspection. I plug it in key the car and run the reset for inspection and it counts to up to 9 and goes back to the fc prompt but I still have amber bars.
I also hit go at the fc prompt just to see what it would do and it came back with E 10 which the manual says is a connection error.
Puzzling.
tried it today didnt work for me. my nav unit/radio turned on and i got a message on the dash display reading test...i dont remember the rest but no sia.
I did the SIA check today, March 1, 2009, and it showed:
152 1
Does that mean I have 152 liters of gasoline left to consume before my Inspection II? And what does the 1 mean after the 152?
The Extended Service low mileage annual oil service was done December 17, 2008 at 47,268 miles.
My BMW extended service plan ends on March 20th - 19 days from now, and if it is true that all I have to do is go through 40.15 gallons of gas ($92 of premium) for a free Inspection II..... Time for a quick road trip!
BTW, I currently have about 52,500 miles on my 2003 M5. BMW Repair History (Claims) shows the last Inspection was an Inspection I at 24,668 miles on December 15, 2005.

I did the SIA check today March 2, after using about a third of a tank of gas, and it now shows:
136 1
Still wondering if it means I have 136 liters (35.9 US Gallons) of gasoline to consume before my Inspection II? And what does the 1 mean after the 136?

I get nothing coming up, although it did change the temp to Celsius twice...
My peake reader doesn't work for resetting the lights either...
Not sure if DME has been updated or not.. Plan to hit dealer, will ask if they can check..
Thoughts?
Matt

Very cool data! This is exactly how caterpillar schedules maintenance for marine engines: by volyume of fuel consumed. Makes much more sense than miles. I will start using this to maintain the car instead of miles.
Fantastic, thanks.
