Sorry, but neither my 911 (1991 C4) or 540i (1995 manual) sees the dealer for normal servicing. Simply because the dealers haven't got a clue about the older cars. When ordering parts I've been told several times manual e34 540i's don't exist.............
Replacement of an AC sensor on the 911? Dealer (PON Porsche, the official importer) quoted 6 HOURS of labor, an independant laughed at me in the face and swapped it in 5 minutes for a new one. Same partnumber

.
Oil-pump bolts falling out on the BMW V8's? Dealer doesn't have a clue, thanked me in writing for the warning, and they're checking all high milieage V8s now. With a failure rate of about 90%......
Cam-tensioners swap on S14 and S38 for the later models? They didn't believe it was possible until I showed them the internet pages.
VW MAF swap on e39 M5? They don't have a clue......
Longlife oil in e39 M5? They'll chuck it in without thinking twice.....
Every car I've sent to BMW for new thrust-arm-bushes comes back shimmying worse. Why? Because they just swap them on a 2-post lift and tear up the bushing when lowering it. They simply don't have a clue........
When asking for diff-oil for an M5 they said it was the same as all other BMWs. And here's wise-*ss telling them LSD requires different lubricants..... I stopped working as a mechanic years ago, and the only reason I maintain my own cars because no-one else will do it properly.
Cars older then 5 years should never be maintained by dealers, only by specialists. Dealer exist for selling new cars and selling parts, thats it.
